Hello everyone, and welcome back ...
after a year on this blog ... that seems to be born only to recount the fantastic adventures in New York in the days immediately preceding and immediately following the Marathon ...
It 's been a day and a half after our arrival and the feeling is that New York is at the center of the world these days .. and if it is New York, the center of the world there are those who at this moment is in New York.
It 'hard to feel the center of the world. I can not explain how ... but that's what you breathe in those days.
The whole city is preparing to host 40,000 runners, each with their own personal challenge to overcome. The history of the New York Marathon is not just the story of those 4 or 5 runners who will vie for the top spot, but it is the personal history of each of us. Every little runner and he feels a kind of intimacy with this great city, with its noises, its smells ... it sounds like a love story, but those that do not end ☺ never
And after these lines of great poetry (the time zone you feel a little '), we pass to the narration of these first 36 hours.
Wednesday, October 29.
Arrival at the hotel at 17. Are staying at the Hilton New York at the intersection of the 6th Avenue and 53rd Street. This year, the hotel is definitely better than last year (the room is as big as a conference room). It seems that the Presidents of the United States, when they come to New York, alloggino here. The hotel is also the headquarters of the organization.
After the arrangement with a group of brave heroes (Joseph and Mario), we can get to Madison Square Garden to watch the first game of the NBA season: New York Knicks against Miami Heat. The Madison Square Garden is a living room with 17,000 people and the game is a spectacle. Knicks win (the team coached by Mike D'Antoni and Milan where he plays the 18 year-old Danilo Gallinari, in his first year here in America).
After the game, back to the hotel exhausted. They are 23 ... but you do not sleep for 24 hours.
Thursday, October 30.
Rise early and finishing the usual morning at 8:30 at Central Park.
now the die is cast ... there's more time to recover for those not in shape. The Sgambati of today is to enjoy the park, recover from the melt and stretch a bit '. During our cross training Radclife Paula, who won last year's Marathon world record holder. In the morning, then go to pick up the chest at the Javits Center, followed by walk to the characteristic Pier 17 where you can see the Brooklyn Bridge. It 's almost time of sunset and the colors of this area are fantastic.
The evening ends at Katz Delicatessen, famous for having taken place Harry and Sally on their way to New York (it was filmed here, the "legendary" scene from When Harry Met Sally).
Now we're back ... and just before bed ... for a commitment that I took with you all ... and I would say for good luck (Given that last year led me to write well) I have updated the first two days.
Tomorrow is Halloween ... the city is preparing to welcome millions and millions of masks of different colors.
Marathon Tomorrow missing 3 days ... the city is preparing to host 40,000 runners of 40,000 different colors.
This day of our trip is called: "But really I will run my second marathon Sunday?".
Goodnight,
Alessio
